Connecting device: The device (a phone or modem) that connects to the Hub to send and receive SMS from the hub

Hub: The computer that runs the FrontlineSMS software

Implementation of FrontlineSMS: A term to describe the entire process involved in getting FrontlineSMS up and running, including training, systems, hardware, software and SMS delivery

Instance of FrontlineSMS: The hub, the FrontlineSMS software and connecting device together

FrontlineForms: Forms allow you to create electronic versions of simple data collection forms for use on Java-enabled mobile phones

FrontlineSMS users: NGOs and their staff using FrontlineSMS in their projects

Forms-ready phones: Phones that have been set up to run FrontlineForms

Keywords: Keywords are a powerful feature in FrontlineSMS that allow you to automatically trigger actions within FrontlineSMS

Recipient handsets: The phones that are owned by FrontlineSMS users.

Salesforce: Provider of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software that is available through their cloud-computing model.

SMS service providers: Also known as SMS gateway providers, SMS resellers or SMS brokers. SMS service providers facilitate the SMS traffic between mobile subscribers.

Twitter: An online social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, informally known as “tweets”.

Ushahidi: A non-profit technology company that develops free and open source software for information collection, visualization and interactive mapping.
