How can I upgrade my version of FrontlineSMS?
Note: There is no direct upgrade from previous versions of FrontlineSMS (such as FrontlineSMS v1.5.8, v1.6.12, v1.6.14, v1.6.16.1 or v1.6.16.2) to the latest release (FrontlineSMS v1.6.16.3). You will not be able to directly import all of your data from a previous install nor will you be able to import your old messages, your keyword/action setup or your email history.
To upgrade from version 1.5.8 to version 1.6.x, follow these steps:
1. Export your contacts.
To export your contacts, from version 1.5.8, from the File menu, click Export… Contacts, select the options you want and save as a .csv file.
2. Ensure that you have safeguarded all the other data that you wish to keep from version 1.5.8.
Note: Once you have uninstalled version 1.5.8, this data will not be recoverable.
To copy the SQLite (default) database with all your contacts, messages, keywords and data, from the FrontlineSMS configuration folder, copy and paste the frontline.db file to a safe place. If you do need to access it at a later date, you could re-install FrontlineSMS 1.5.8, or, alternatively, use an SQLite tool which is a database engine which you can use to store your data.
3. Uninstall 1.5.8 using the normal procedures for your operating system.
4. Download the version of FrontlineSMS version 1.6.x that corresponds to your operating system.
To download FrontlineSMS, see the Download page.
5. Launch the newly installed software.
From the File menu, click Import… Contacts and select the file you saved from step 2.
Your previous contacts should then be present in your software.
If you experience problems upgrading, see the Contact us page.
