What is the speed of sending and receiving messages in FrontlineSMS?
The average rate of a single GSM SIM card on a GSM network is 6 – 7 messages/minute. If you send several hundred through one SIM, it will take a significant amount of time. If you leave the system sending, they will eventually get through.
Other factors that may affect the speed of message delivery or receipt are if the
- mobile network is busy
- user is out of signal
- battery is low.
In these cases, the SMS messages will wait until the phone is on and there is a signal before being sent. If there are a lot of messages waiting in the queue, it may take time for the messages to send.
To speed up the process of sending and receiving messages you can attach more than one GSM modem to FrontlineSMS, and the software will share the messages between them. If users reply to these messages, then these replies will be shared between the phones too, so it will spread the load and increase the speed of SMS delivery. You should be aware that this means those you are sending messages to will not be able to identify you through just one phone number.
If you need to send or receive messages in bulk (for example, hundreds or thousands per minute), we recommend that you add an Internet SMS service for sending or receiving in bulk. You can still use FrontlineSMS to do all of this, and still use your existing SIM card for receiving. For more information, see Internet SMS services in the online Help.
